Day 26 - Travel Day - Louisburg, NS

Today was a long travel day, going from Woodhaven RV Park in Halifax to Louisbourg RV Park in Louisbourg, NS, a distance of 267 miles.

As he does early every travel day, Tail Gunner Roger Scott, also known as “Thumper”, bangs all the tires on each RV with his golf club.  He listens closely to make sure that it gives him the “just right air pressure”.

Just minutes after we left the campground, we saw a female moose about 80 yards away crossing the road but moving too fast for us to grab our camera.

At 38 miles into our trip, we pass a sign indicating that we are halfway between the North Pole and the Equator – 45 degrees north.

Our travel log showed a lot of places to pull off along this route, e.g. Cummings, Freightliner and Cat dealers on left and a Wal-Mart on the right.  We’ve fallen in love with Canadian Tire and browsed their aisles for awhile.  They have a lot more for sale than tires!!!!

There was an optional stop at the NS Museum of Industry.   This is Atlantic Canada’s largest museum and is located on the former site of the Foord Coal Mine.  It chronicles the impact of industrialization on the Nova Scotia people.

We crossed over the Canso Causeway, the deepest in the world at 217 feet.  It took 10-million tons of rock to build.

100 miles past the causeway, we arrive at Louisbourg RV Park.  Everyone arrives in time to attend the 5:00 p.m. social.  Karen was surprised when Rich and Manni Ramonda presented her with Claude, the traveling lobster.   Rich told us that Claude needed a fellow traveler.

We sang Happy Birthday to Linda Toon.  Spence and Roger performed the tour breifing.
