We leave Pumpkin Patch RV Park bright and early for our trek to Canada. Rigs are on the road by 10:30AM.
We are treated to the spectacular views of the Wyman Lake and Kennebec River as we head northward. It is a 116 mile trip to the Canadian border.
The further north we get the more
the scenery changes to rugged landscapes and taller mountains. Everyone keeps
an eye out for wildlife, unfortunately, only two moose are spotted.
Arrival at
the Canadian border brings butterflies to some of our stomachs fearing the
questioning we know we will get from the Customs Inspectors.
Only a few campers
are subject to complete inspections, most just get the interrogation on
firearms, weapons, and alcohol. Nothing is confiscated or disallowed.
However, it is known that a sweet potato was thrown out the window of a certain coach just before the border crossing so as not to be subject to questioning on regulated root vegetables!
Crossing
into Canada, we are treated to even more spectacular scenery. Lakes, hardwood
forests and mountains. Some take a break from the drive to pull off at rest
areas or scenic overlooks to take in the sights. The drive north is fairly
simple, only one road to follow. Only one driver (no names here but is known as
Adventure 1, our fearless Wagon Master!) misses a turn and has to regroup to be
back on track!
Arrival at
the KOA in Quebec is a little late due to a backup on the highway, but all
arrive safe and sound. Stories abound of trip highlights and border crossing experiences.
Spence does an orientation for our next day travel followed by a dessert buffet
provided by Adventure Caravan staff.
A highlight is fresh prepared Peach
Cobbler made by Jean Etchemendy in a Dutch Oven. Everyone enjoys the sweets and
goes away with full tummies.
Off to bed for an early morning bus trip into the
historic city of Quebec.
